Gusto Garlic was founded in 2006 by Al & Donna Kozak when their first test crop of fifteen bulbs was grown. The first harvests were a huge success and the size of their 2009 crop has now expanded to approximately 12,000 garlic plants consisting of eight different varieties.
Al and Donna’s goal is to grow and supply the market with the best garlic possible, and to assist new farms or backyard gardeners with the knowledge of how to grow great organic garlic. This was the basis of their name:
Gusto: "An individual or special taste"
Their beautiful 17 acre farm; Duende Farm, is located in Maple Ridge on the original site of one of BC’s first farms in the Fraser Valley. The farm is T3 Transitional for organic certification, and they anticipate full organic certification in 2009. Although garlic is the main crop, they are testing other crops including squash, sweet potatoes and decorative corn. These crops will be introduced next year.
Gusto Garlic currently supplies garlic to wholesale customers, and to retail customers through farmers markets and farm gate sales. Al and Donna are committed to the sale of seed garlic of the highest quality. Seeds are available direct from the farm, or on-line through their website at: www.gustogarlic.com
Existing and new customers are invited to visit the farm to see how their farm operates and how great garlic is grown. Contact them at info@gustogarlic.com or by visiting www.gustogarlic.com.
