RAINCOAST TRADING

Since 1978, Raincoast Trading has been producing premium quality wild seafood products while being an environmentally responsible company. As a family owned company involved in the fishing industry, Raincoast Trading employs only local fishermen and fishing vessels and uses ecologically responsible harvesting and processing methods. In order to ensure future generations continued access to wild seafood, fishermen employ “hook and line” and portable fish trapping techniques to ensure that only targeted species are caught while others are returned. All seafood is caught in the Pacific Northwest region as fish migration patterns show that fish in this area have the highest levels of oils.

The choice to use wild fishing practice as opposed to fish farming has several benefits to the consumer and the community. Fish farming can cause damaging and irreversible harm to the environment and wild fish stocks. Wild fish is also a better choice nutritionally as it is more rich in essential Omega 3 fatty acids than farmed fish. Many people also prefer the taste of wild seafood over farmed seafood, which contains more saturated fat.

Raincoast Trading’s ongoing commitment to sustainable business practices is evident in their use of packaging. All products are attractively packaged in fully recyclable cans, using only recyclable paper and soy based inks on their labeling.

Consumers of Raincoast Trading wild products are ensured of enjoying the most natural, carefully preserved seafood available. Seafood is harvested carefully and minimally processed so that it retains all of its own oils and juices, meaning no added water or oil is used. The result is a superior quality product bursting with fresh, natural flavour and nutrition. Raincoast Trading produces canned tuna and sockeye as well as smocked salmon products.

Raincoast Trading canned and smoked seafood can be found at all better health and nutrition stores in the lower mainland. Their products are available at Capers Market, Choices Markets, Stongs, Whole Foods, among others (see their website for complete list.)
