Sprouts is a student volunteer-driven club at UBC dedicated to fostering food security and community on the UBC campus and beyond.
Our primary initiative is a non-profit, hybrid cafe/grocery store that operates out of the UBC SUB (Student Union Building). We sell local and organic produce, minimally-packaged groceries and bulk foods, fair-trade tea and coffee, as well as home-made seasonal organic soups, baked goods and bread (all prepared in-house by our volunteers). We do our best to source the best organic BC produce for sale and as ingredients for our soups. And the most local of our suppliers is around the corner at the UBC farm!
As well as running the store, we also sponsor a number of outreach projects to serve and enhance the UBC community. These include a pay-what-you-can lunch called “Community Eats”, a wholesale buying club, a bicycle-powered grocery delivery service called “The Sprouts Box”, and a series of free, educational workshops that promote various cooking and food-related skills. Our team of over 50 dedicated volunteers and 18-member Board of Directors shares a commitment to connect our customers to the land and people who grow their food.
